Young Latinos have a new publication, thanks to the energy and vision of Rodrigo Salazar, a 21-year-old junior at New York University. With the assistance of several classmates, Salazar created Urban: The Latino Magazine, a glossy two-color magazine written by and for Latinos.
"There is a lot of power in the media," Salazar said. Urban was started as a forum where Latinos have control of their own images and stories." The magazine is currently circulated through newstand distribution in New York City, as well as through the New York State University system.
"We're thinking long-term," Salazar said, "We'd like to grow into a complete communications company, publishing other magazines, books, and music, all with the same message. We want to show what young Latinos are capable of achieving."
