On The Move - Natalie Martinez
For her big screen debut, Natalie Martinez starred opposite Tyrese Gibson and Jason Statham in this past summer’s action-packed thriller, Death Race. Although, the model/actress’ role as a no nonsense female inmate in the ultra violent film may have seemed foreign to the Cuban-American beauty, in reality, the part was right up her alley. “I couldn’t have asked for a better cast to work with on my first movie,” explains the 24-year-old Miami native. “Everything was perfect. I got to ride in dope cars and blow things up.”
The self-proclaimed tomboy is no stranger to mixing it up with the boys. While she’s not auditioning for her next role or flaunting her sexy Latin curves in the pages of magazines, the former spokesmodel for Jennifer Lopez’s clothing line J.LO, enjoys ripping up the pavement skateboarding, collecting exclusive kicks and sporting trump gold chains. A tomboy? We find that hard to believe. Yes, I’m definitely a tomboy.
[Laughs] Right now, I’m wearing my boyfriend’s jeans and a white tshirt.
It’s nothing sexier than a woman dressed down in sweats and a tee. Is that your everyday attire?
My style is really all over the place. I don’t just have one. What I wear, reflects me on that day, and how I’m feeling or how I’m doing. I have these two tank tops that I wear almost everyday. One says “beauty is on the inside,” and the other one is a plain white striped tank top, which I’m wearing now. I prefer to be comfortable at all times. I just love sandals.
What? No stilettos?
I skateboard sometimes and I messed up my ankle riding. So I don’t wear heels unless I have to because my ankle is kind of busted.
Skateboard P meet Skateboard Natalie. You must be nice with the kick flips?
I don’t go crazy. I can throw the board and dive on it [laughs]. But, I only skate to get to point A and B. I used to ride everywhere, but now that I’m back in L.A., I cruise to the gym, and places around Hollywood. I skate for fun, not professionally or anything like that.
You’re also into collecting sneakers?
I have the “illest” sneaker collection. Nike mostly. I used to keep my kicks in the box and wouldn’t even wear them. Then I started skateboarding in them. I sold a lot of them on EBay.
What’s your favorite pair?
My red and black Supreme Blazers, I also had these Nike SB’s, that were blue and pink and I wore them out. I have these Air Max, the original ones that came out in ‘93, grey and green, the ones that reach all the way up to my knee. I don’t even think they came out. Oooh, but my favorite pair are my “Public Enemy” Vans, which has the PE logo with the target.
Gangsta!
Yea, I’m from Miami, com’on! [Laughs] But I like to keep it simple. [However], I still need my makeup mascara, Vera Wang Princess (perfume) and Herve’ Leger! That label is just amazing. It just fits perfectly for any Latin woman’s curves!
I absolutely agree! What can’t you live without?
I’m all about gold. I have a gold watch that I always wear. I like to wear little gold chains. I’m Cuban, so I usually wear my Dad’s gold chains a lot; these thick Cuban links to be cheesy.
