Little Girl Lost: The Delimar Vera Story is a heart wrenching truetale
of Luz Cuevas’—played by Judy Reyes (Scrubs)—persistent suspicion that her infant daughter, Delimar did not die in a tragic house fire, but was still alive and had been kidnapped. There is no denying a mother’s love, strength and conviction, however, everyone around Luz wants her to just let her notion go and move on with life. But of course, she refuses.

When Luz and her husband Pedro Vera—portrayed by Hector Luis Bustamante—go to their daughter’s room shortly after the explosion, Luz tries her best to reach her child’s crib, but the fire is too severe. However, she does have time to notice that the window to her daughter’s room was open and the crib was empty before Pedro pulls her out to safety. Luz realizes that something isn’t right. Luz’s denial of her daughter’s death not only essentially costs her, her marriage, but ultimately her sanity as well.

What’s most shocking about Luz’s kidnapping theory is that her cousin, Valerie Valleja (Ana Ortiz of Ugly Betty) pretended to have given birth to her own child days before the fire; but as it turns out the child that Valerie “gives birth to” is actually Luz’s daughter, Delimar. Baby thief, Valerie, even had the audacity to invite the Vera’s to her “daughter’s” sixth birthday party, where Luz was able to get a look at Delimar (who’s name is Aliyah in Valerie’s home). Convincing Delimar that she had gum in her hair, Luz was able to get a few strands to use for a DNA test,
which eventually proved that she was the true mother. After six years of standing alone, Luz finally gains a politician’s support—Angel Cruz, played by A. Martinez.

Fully dramatic in it’s own right, Little Girl Lost highlights the incredible
acting chops of usually sassy Judy Reyes and Ana Ortiz. The entire cast succeeded in embracing the realism as well as the humanity of the story. Director Paul A. Kaufman proved that there is nothing like a true-life drama to get your tear ducts in motion.
