Jorge Cano Moreno co-founded Urban Latino Magazine in 1994 with an initial investment of $1,500, and has built the magazine into a national brand grossing over one million dollars a year in revenue. Urban Latino, a lifestyle magazine, remains today as one of the few independent voices of the Latino culture in the United States. Through Urban Latino Magazine, Cano-Moreno and his team have helped define the Latino youth market.

With a common goal to bridge the gap between acculturated and non-acculturated Latinos, in 2002 Cano-Moreno, along with El Diario La Prensa, the largest Spanish language newspaper in the northeast, launched Urban Sofrito, a monthly bi-lingual newspaper supplement. In the same year Cano-Moreno collaborated with AIM TV, and launched Urban Latino TV, a magazine format television show. Urban Latino TV was distributed to the top 25 markets and was syndicated through network television.

In 2002, Cano-Moreno co-produced “Boogie Rican Boulevard”, an Off-Broadway, one-woman show in New York City, featuring actress and spoken word artist, Caridad De La Luz (a.k.a. “La Bruja”). The show sold out 85% of the 6-week run. In 2005, Cano-Moreno joined Miraflix Productions as Co-Producer of the Independent film “Harlem Hostel”, and in the summer of 2005 the film went into production and filming began in New York City. Currently, the film is being shopped around by Executive Producer, Moctezuma Esparza, of Maya Pictures (producers of “Selena” and HBO’s “Walk Out”).  In addition, Cano-Moreno has produced national commercial spots for Readers Digest
and El Diario La Prensa.

Cano-Moreno is a much sought after public speaker on a variety of media and entertainment topics. Amongst the universities Cano-Moreno has spoken at are, Albany University, Boston College, University of Florida, Columbia University, and NYU’s Stern School of Business, among others. Cano-Moreno has participated on various panels ranging from, NAMIC (National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications), NGLC (New Generation Latino Consortium), LAMC (Latino Music Conference), ASPIRA, and the Latin Rap Conference.

Often recognized as a pioneer in the Publishing world, Cano-Moreno was awarded the “Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year” award by Hispanic Magazine in 2001. In 2007, Cano-Moreno, along with partners, will be launching a Marketing and Creative service company. Cano-Moreno is a retired ranked member of the United States Army and currently resides in New York City.
